Dr. Marianne Matthias is an affiliate investigator who focuses on communication in healthcare contexts, with particular interest in treatment decision-making in chronic pain care. She is co-investigator on a randomized controlled trial focused on patient activation and communication for Black Veterans with chronic pain and was co-principal investigator on a mixed-methods study examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Veterans’ pain management. She serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of General Internal Medicine and Pain Medicine and has published over 90 scholarly articles.
