Dawn M. Bravata, MD, is a general internist at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center, a core investigator of the VA HSR Center for Health Information and Communication in Indianapolis, a Professor of Medicine and Adjunct Professor of Neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and a research scientist at the Regenstrief Institute. The fundamental goal of her work is to improve the care and outcomes for patients with complex medical needs. She has conducted multi-site randomized clinical trials, large observational cohorts, and implementation trials. She has also conducted facility-specific, multi-site, and national quality improvement projects including program and policy evaluations. Her work has examined the quality of care received by patients with vascular disease, the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for patients with cerebrovascular disease, and the implementation of programs to improve care for patients with complex medical needs. Much of her current work focuses on supporting community-dwelling older persons as they transition from the hospital to home. She also continues to support the development and evaluation of participatory arts programs to improve participants’ well-being. An emerging area of interest is in the use of pharmacogenetics in primary care. Dr. Bravata serves as a mentor for trainees and junior faculty from diverse disciplines.
