Dr. Kukla is a core investigator of the CHIC, a clinical psychologist, and adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She began her career in the CHIC as a postdoctoral fellow in 2010 and as an investigator in 2012. Dr. Kukla’s professional interests are in mental health services research and psychosocial rehabilitation practices that promote recovery and community functioning in veterans with mental illness. She is currently the principal investigator on a Young Investigator Award grant addressing facilitators and barriers to competitive work in veterans with severe mental illness and post traumatic stress disorder. Recently, Dr. Kukla submitted a Career Development Award (under review) proposing to adapt and pilot a cognitive behavioral intervention to bolster competitive employment outcomes in veterans with mental illness. Dr. Kukla is also a co-investigator on several research projects, including studies examining evidence-based practices for severe mental illness, fidelity to program models and patient outcomes, interventions to improve chronic illness self management, mental health staff burnout, and psychotherapeutic process and outcome.
